Every week 2000 young musicians have their regular instrumental and vocal lessons with the Hillingdon Music Service.
Instrumental and vocal tuition is given on a wide range of instruments in a diversity of styles: from pop guitar to classical percussion; from sitar and tabla to jazz saxophone; from popular vocal to the full range of orchestral instruments. The lessons are available in all mainstream schools with junior pupils and secondary pupils; and in special schools, and every year staff give demonstration concerts and workshops in schools to 13,000 pupils.
The service also runs 22 musical ensembles; these create 800 opportunities for young people to join choirs, bands, orchestras, and other ensembles. These activities take place on weekday evenings and at the Saturday Music Centre. Hillingdon Music Service have, in recent years, worked with some 800 Key Stage 2 pupils.

Hillingdon Music Centre operates on a Saturday morning and on each weekday evening. It offers many and diverse opportunities for young musicians to work together at the highest possible levels in bands, choirs, orchestras and chamber groups. The Saturday Centre has three full-size orchestras, four string orchestras, three full-size wind bands and two large choirs. Smaller groups include string quartets, saxophone group, brass ensemble and percussion group. In addition students are offered the opportunity to take theory and aural classes and learn basic keyboard skills. Over 300 students attend on a Saturday morning and the Abbotsfield and Swakeleys school sites are alive with music-making from 8.30am until 1.30 pm.
Our weekday evening groups include two outstanding and successful jazz bands, the clarinet choir, the Junior Strings and Junior Band for children of about grade 1 standard and the Music Service Brass Band, which has members with ages from 10 - 50 plus!
Hillingdon's Mayor conducts the Wind Band, under the watchful eye of Maisie during a visit to the Music Centre.
